Krystyna Misiak was born in 1949. She completed her studies in the textile studio of the painting departments of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland in 1973. For several years, she devoted her energies to motherhood and only re-emerged on the artistic scene in Poland during the 1980s.

Misiak began working as an artist in the field of fine art textile design but quickly focused on drawing and painting. Her work in all three disciplines has come full circle as she freely makes use of similar forms in different media. Some viewers have noted that her works bear traces of figures and real objects, however the works are not intended to be representational.

Misiak is fascinated by two-dimensional planes defined by light emerging from behind lines. This juxtaposition of light and line creates uneven, organic surfaces that are once material and immaterial (air). Misiak aims to create works that capture this delicate balance and particular quality of space.

She looks at the world with unyielding amazement and her artwork reflects this state of mind. It is hard for her to judge to what degree the works themselves are abstractions since they have a directly reflect all that surrounds her. MisiakÕs drawings are neither the results of intellectual investigations nor the products of uncontrolled experiments.
